Week 4

Growing Up

Tonight Jackson decided that he was ready to feed himself. I have not really been encouraging this practice to avoid the mess and extra time but he was ready...kind of.
All of a sudden he seems like a little boy instead of a baby. Time goes by so fast and he is getting so big.

Packing Heat for Lunch

Today I called Mark to see if he wanted to go to lunch and he politely turned me down because he was going to the gun range. The gun range? Mark doesn't even own a gun with which to visit this range. Hence my confusion.
Apparently a friendly coworker had brought an entire arsenal of weapons to work and they were going to 'shoot a few rounds' during the noon time break. Now I am not anti NRA but does this concern anyone else? What happened to just hitting the local Subway?

Not an actual photo but very well could be. Male bonding at its finest.

Mom

My mom. What can I say but she is the best. I have been thinking a lot about her partly because she just had a birthday and mostly because I don't know what I would do without her on a daily basis. She is my friend, go to babysitter, confidante, comedian, listener, consoler, and most importantly my mom no matter how old I get.

Happy Baby to Lindsey

On Saturday we had a baby shower for Lindsey here and what a grand time it was. She hauled in a ton of good loot for the wee one. We are so excited to have another cousin in the family. Jackson is a little spoiled and could only benefit from the love being spread around. (That means you, Grandma Annie) Can't wait to see you baby Bentley.
This is the only picture I got from the shower. Once the festivities got into full swing the camera was forgotten.

Babies bring out a little Martha in all of us.

Hoopin It Up With the Sisters

This is an actual photo from last night's big game. That is the Relief Society pres taking it to the hole. Good fan base, don't you think? Especially for a Thursday.
As mentioned we had our first women's church basketball game and what an awesome display of athleticism, grace, endurance, and for many, courage. Most hadn't played basketball since playing church ball in young women glory days. These are a few snip its that made the highlight real.

*Before the game one team member said, "I have three bras on, I hope that will be enough."

*One team member not quite sure where the basket is without her glasses.

*While resting on bench one team member admitted that she peed a little every time she jumped.

*The ref having to explain that that you can't 'hug' the opposing team while on defense.

*Our team member yelling, "I've got 3 more to give!" when the other team got upset over the foul she had committed.

*Begging the ref for open substitution when a team member complained that all the air had been sucked out of the gym after running a couple lengths of the court.

*"What's the key?" after being called for 3 seconds.

All in all, good knee-length sweats, wholesome fun.

Week 2

Strength

This is a picture taken with Linds, and my cousin Jodi. Jodi has been one of my best friends for a lot of years. On Thursday, November 29th, Jodi became dizzy and passed out. This had also happened to her one week earlier while shopping. She was taken to Davis hospital. Throughout the day on Thursday, Jodi started to lose her ability to swallow and to speak. At about 4pm, they ran an MRI and MRV and determined that Jodi had a massive blood clot at the base of her brain. They life-flighted her to the University of Utah where a team was waiting to perform emergency surgery to remove the clot. Her Dr. was in Los Angelos at the time and after arriving at the University of Utah, she began the surgery. During the surgery, she, (the Dr.) determined that the blood clot was too large and the vein too weak to allow her to remove the clot. She performed a procedure that was entirely revolutionary and experimental in an effort to save Jodi's life. She placed a several stints in the vein at the base of Jodi's brain to allow blood to that part of the brain. Miraculously, Jodi survived the surgery. She did have a stroke that greatly affected the right side of her body.
Jodi is still in the hospital and continues to progress in her therapy. Her baby was just three weeks old when this all happened and she has two older boys. I can't even imagine how difficult this has been for her and her family. She is such an example of faith, strength, and endurance.

Daddy's Little Helper

Tonight Mark was taking out the tile in our entryway, one of those small projects that never turn out to be small or easy. Anyway, Jackson was very intrigued with the whole process and wanted to help and work shoulder to shoulder with his dad. The testosterone was tangible.

Mark, always the safety conscience dad, loaned Jackson his stylish goggles. This is going to be a long project.
